The short version: Your conversations and memories live on your device, not our servers. When you chat, your message passes through our server to reach the AI and is not stored there. Nothing is kept on our servers unless you explicitly share it, and then only for 14 days. We do not sell your data.
What We Collect
When you sign in with Google:
- Name and email address — to identify your account
- Google account identifier — to keep you signed in across visits
Sign-in is provided by Google and protected by your own Google account security, including any 2-step verification you use. We never see your Google password. We request identity only; we do not request access to your Gmail, Drive, or other Google data unless you later choose to enable an optional feature that asks separately.
Service usage:
- Usage metering — we record the amount of AI processing your account uses (measured in tokens) so we can manage the practice credits granted to you. This is a number, not the content of what you said.
- Feature counts — we count how often features like sharing are used, as totals, not tied to profiles of individual behavior.
- Country and last active date — basic operational information.
Where Your Conversations Live
On your device. Conversations, memories, and personal documents are stored in your browser. You can export them to a file you keep, and delete them at any time. We are not able to browse them, because they are not on our servers.
In transit: when you send a message, it passes through our server on its way to the AI provider and the reply passes back. We relay this traffic; we do not store conversation content on our servers in the normal course of use.
When you explicitly share: some features let you choose to place a copy on our server, for example sharing a session with your coach or moving your conversations to another device with a transfer code. Anything you share this way:
- happens only when you press a clearly labeled share button, never by default
- is deleted automatically after 14 days at most
- can be deleted by you sooner, at any time
What We Do NOT Do
- We do not store your conversations or memories on our servers, except the explicit 14-day shares described above
- We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties for advertising
- We do not build behavioral profiles from your feature usage
Coaching
If you work with a human coach through our services and choose to share a practice session with them, that coach can read the session you shared, and only that session, for the 14-day share period. Coaches are bound by confidentiality obligations to us.
Third-Party Services
AI processing: your messages are processed by AI providers to generate responses. Depending on the engine you select, this includes Anthropic and models reached through OpenRouter (such as Mistral and Meta models). These providers handle message content under their own privacy policies:
Sign-in: Google provides authentication under the Google Privacy Policy.
Data Retention
- Account information (name, email): kept while your account is active; deleted on request
- Usage metering: kept as operational records
- Explicit shares: 14 days maximum, then automatically deleted
- Everything on your device: entirely under your control
To request deletion of your account data, contact privacy@storytalk.ai.
